15 January 2003

Hi Folks,

Frontpage International News
Check out the front page of international hockey website, Inline Hockey Central ( Highlighted is our upcoming national tournament, 'The 2003 Cup' and our advertisement promting the event overseas. IHC is the world's most recognised site for roller hockey and highly regarded as the hub of the sport internationally. IHC editor, Rich Graham, is planning a visit in 2003 to one of our Puckhandlers tournaments. He was planning to visit this January but unfortunately got held up with a new job editing a sporting magazine in America. Since he posted the story (few days ago) I have received hundreds of emails from players, coaches and referees from around the globe interested in coming 'Down Under' to play roller hockey. They seem to be very impressed it is going to be aired on TV (for those that don't know tune into Channel 31 Tuesday Feb 11 at 8:30pm). Will keep you posted...

Sr Silver Cup - The Senior Silver Cup is now in full swing. The Silver division has been dominated thus far by The Cougars and Goalies who are both 4 and 0. The Raptors and Bulldogs also look strong while Tasmania are planning another impressive run for the $1,000 cheque. Check out the Gossip Board for a complete rundown (a la Dan Fisher) on any and all movements made by the Goalies since the tournament started... The Bronze Division is tight as usual with the Masters team 'Mordialloc Rangers' looking the goods thus far whilst undefeated. Canberra side 'Team Porn' get in on Thursday and will not be likely to give up their two year reign without a fight! Team Porn have also been known to do a bit of 'trash talkin' on the 'ole gossip board. The Paper Division has been cracking thus far! The Rats are the best team while the beloved defending champions 'Mother Puckers' are known for pulling it all together when it all counts in the grand final. However... The Hockey Widows have been undeniable crowd favorites. The team is made up of hockey players wives and girlfriends and are all beginners. They played well in the first game of the tournament against the 'Mother Puckers' but unfortunately came up against a hot goalie and went down by a very close 8 - 1 (should have heard the roar when 'Mars Bar' scored the Widows' goal!). Good luck to all the teams for the final weekend. Cup 2003 - The National Club Challenge starts on January 19 and should be a great event with officially 45 teams participating for the title of 'Best Club Team' in each of the divisions. There has been a slight change to the fixture (SORRY!) with the addition of a new team in the 16's division (very few teams affected). Please double check the fixture (excel file attached) to ensure your team is aware of all game times. Don't miss the event when it is aired on TV Tuesday Feb 11 at 8:30pm.
The '$$Pro Division$$' Grand Final is Sunday January 26 at 4:25pm. Don't miss it! Last year Marty McSorley, Ralph Barahona and the Sydney boys took home the $4,000 cheque. Should be interesting to see who pulls it off this time around.

Hockey Shop - Over one thousand players and parents will be passing through our shop over the next week and therefore big sale prices are on show! Anyone looking for something hockey related check out Puckhandlers and get the best prices available Australia wide! All top brands on show, Nike, CCM, Easton, Bauer, Mission, Tour, Red Star, Labeda, Volcanix, Montreal, Sher Wood, Itech...

New merchandising in the hockey shop - Puckhandlers now has new visors, windscreen stickers and tees available in the shop with our new Puckhandlers logo. Anyone interested can either pick them up at the tournament or send through an email to get them shipped out straight away from the Hockey shop.

Look forward to seeing all those playing or spectating (should that be taxiing?) in the January tournaments at Puckhandlers.

Thanks for tuning in,
Karl Bryan
